Unique Christmas Seafood Dishes (That Won't Break the Bank)

Do you fall into the trap of cooking the same old dishes every Christmas? Need some inspiration to make this Christmas special?

We've scoured our recipe stores to bring you some unique and delicious recipes for the festive season.

Many of us need to save a buck this year, so we've stuck to affordable species. But remember, you can always swap in your favourite fish, or something your fishmonger recommends (they know their stuff!).

PRAWN TACOS

RECIPE HERE

We all love a prawn (or ten) at Christmas, and this is a great way to make sure the whole family gets their fill. Lay out all the toppings on a table and let everyone create a taco. Kids especially love being able to choose their own flavourings.

OCEAN TROUT FLATBREAD ROLLS

RECIPE HERE

We all love a smoked salmon blini, but let's get real... They've been around since your grandmother's day, and are getting a little boring. Try these Ocean Trout Flatbread Rolls instead!

Bonus: Smoked Ocean Trout is often much cheaper than Salmon, and it's wild-caught in Australia.

FLATHEAD PITAS WITH TZATZIKI AND CHERRY TOMATOES

RECIPE HERE

These little pitas are so easy to make, and to eat while chasing down over-excited kids! All the ingredients can be easily prepped ahead of time, so all you need to do on the day is assemble.

Budget swaps for Flathead include Gurnard, Leatherjacket, Yellowfin Bream, and Ling.

SQUID & FENNEL BRUSCHETTA

RECIPE HERE

Bruschetta is a great appetiser to serve with drinks, and the seafood options are only limited by your imagination. Gould's Squid is caught locally, and is far more affordable than its cousin the Southern Calamari, but you could also use Cuttlefish, Baby Octopus, or prawns!

FISH SKEWERS

RECIPE HERE

We've got a huge range of skewer recipes on our website, and they're all delicious. You could even prepare a selection and let your family choose their favourite!

Choose your fish based on its firmness – think Tuna, Ling, or Swordfish rather than Whiting or Dory – so it doesn't fall apart on the barbecue.
